Orin Swift Papillon 2016

Regular price $85.00

Orin Swift’s history dates back to 1995 when founder David Swift Phinney was introduced to wine and how it was made while studying abroad in Florence, Italy. After returning home and graduating David began working as a temporary harvest worker for Robert Mondavi Winery in 1997.  He decided if he was going to work so hard he might as well work for himself, so in 1998 David founded Orin Swift Cellars. He started with two tons of zinfandel and nothing else and has spent that last two decades making wine for himself and others while building the Orin Swift brand.

The 2016 Papillon is a big, bold, and powerful Napa Valley Bordeaux blend. Aged 16 months in French Oak which 40% is new this wine clocks in at 15.1% Alc./Vol. Dark garnet in the glass, this wine is highly aromatic with notes of ripe black cherry, anise, licorice, shaved dark chocolate, rosemary and charred meat. The entry is immense with bright raspberries and fresh cherries, transitioning to a mid-palate of amaretto, sandalwood and hints of high mountain forest and coastal scrub. Textured tannins and notes of toasted coconut round out the palate as the wine finishes with lingering sweet oak. This wine is everything you want to accompany a hearty dinner after a long day of work.  Enjoy this delicious wine alongside braised lamb shank.
